Listen, my children, and you shall hear
The American Revolution, from a survivor's ear.
The anger'd been building, year upon year,
Those lousy Brits didn't listen; they were full of beer.
And finally, finally, the signers cracked.
They cried, "King George won't listen--we must attack!"
General Washington was commissioned to lead
The infant Continental Army, often in need.
Short on weapons, short on men,
One man joked, "Should've used bows (and arrows) instead."
To any eye, they were no match
When compared to the Brits, for they were a disorganized batch.
Britain scoffed, "You'll surely lose."
They won Brooklyn and targeted Massachuse'.
Oh, the Americans, we were crushed!
Washington had a pep-talk: "The Brits we'll smush."
He snuck some men down the Delaware.
The Hessians, surprised, sair-ren-daired. (surrendered)
We Americans were supercharged.
Of course! We won with Washington in charge.
When old Wash' (Washington) said to tire them (the Brits) out,
The army followed his lead with hardly a pout.
Elsewhere in Canada, Gen'rel Burgoyne
General Howe he intended to join.
The two would march to take New York
But Howe had other plans--"Burgoyne's a dork."
This he was, for without support
He surrendered at Saratoga Fort.
With foreign aid, the States grew stronger;
At Monmouth, Sir Clinton was met--the horror!
When Clinton was beat, Cornwallis staged takeover.
He lost at Yorktown; this war was finally over.

A quick social experiment, if you will. Comment if you read this--and if you liked this (ancient) poem, fave the poem itself and not this journal, please. American Revolution Nutshelled
